QLS Agnes McWhinney Award 2018Words by Katrina Mawer, WLAQ Media Advisor & Solicitor

On 9 March 2018, WLAQ Vice President Ann-Maree David was awarded the Queensland Law Society Agnes McWhinney Award. Ann-Maree is passionate about life-long learning and has devoted much of her career to the formal education and ongoing professional development of all who work in the legal arena. Ann-Maree has contributed to the national and international legal education agenda, serving as a member and (multiple terms as) President of the Continuing Legal Education Association of Australasia; delegate to the Law Council of Australia’s Legal Education Committee; member of the National CPD Taskforce; and member of the Australasian Professional Legal Education Council of which she is currently chair. Ann-Maree has also been a tireless proponent of diversity and equity within the profession. In her role as Chair of the QLS Equity and Diversity Committee, Ann-Maree has made a concerted effort to ensure that the Committee’s membership is representative of the profession including (as it now does) indigenous lawyers, lawyers identifying as LGBTIQ, women lawyers, academic lawyers, regional lawyers and both senior and junior lawyers. The WLAQ is extremely proud of the significant and powerful contributions Ann-Maree has made to the legal community.
